JOB TITLE: Research Specialist

For the USAID funded project focusing on highly vulnerable children in Ethiopia, FHI 360 seeks to recruit a Research Specialist to be based in Addis Ababa
Job Summary/Background:
The Research Specialist is an experienced professional who will provide technical support to our research efforts. The Research Specialist will keep all project staff apprised of all research and learning development on the project and ensure project adherence to general research design, sample selection, data management and analysis, and overall project management and will work closely with M&E Director. The RS will also lead training on data management and use for management decision and effective program design with stakeholders, promotion of best practices and taking a lead in sharing best practices/evidences with implementing partners through formal and informal training opportunities, presentations and communities of practice. The RS will regularly meet with stakeholders and partners to ensure success of the project’s key initiatives as well as support the dissemination of results via presentations and reports.
Job Responsibilities:
ü Oversee research activities, including logical framework development, study design, research protocol development, tool development, data analysis, and dissemination;
ü Understand the sensitivities associated with conducting research with OVC/CVC and PLHIV;
ü Design quantitative and qualitative research studies and oversee the implementation of systematic participatory mapping activities in collaboration with project sub partners and implementing partners;
ü Effectively complete and manage ethical review submissions for Institutional Review Board-both local and FHI360;
ü Work with project technical leads as well as stakeholder, implementing partners and sub partners to develop and manage annual research portfolios;
ü Ensure studies are in compliance with ethical, external and internal quality standards;
ü Conduct assessments of data base, including review of processes and tools;
ü Promote use of routine data for decision-making; provide technical assistance to stakeholder platforms to build skills in interpreting research results and using evidence to guide program decisions and activities;
ü Presenting research, monitoring and evaluation findings and recommendations to key target audiences, including policy makers, stakeholders, civil society, researchers, and funders;
ü Build capacity among stakeholder, partner, and sub partner’s researcher staff to design studies, oversee data collection, and analyze/interpret/disseminate results;
ü Submit manuscripts for publications, translate research findings into programmatic activities, modifications and policy recommendations.
Minimum Requirements:
· A minimum of Master’s Degree in health, sociology, economics, development studies, psychology or social science and a strong mastery of health and social science research and analytical methods;
· Demonstrated and proven skills and experience in planning and conducting rigorous analysis of large survey datasets and qualitative data
· Experience of synthesizing data and insights from multiple types of research, including quantitative and qualitative, interviews, participatory methods and secondary sources;
· Proven ability and experience in developing manuscripts for publication and stories for programmatic purpose from research reports;
· Familiarity with appropriate analytical software packages (i.e., SPSS, EpiData, Atlas TI, NVivo, etc);
· Familiarity with trends and issues with experience in the areas of OVC/CVC, Health, HIV/AIDS, Youth, Gender and Livelihoods;
