Operational Context
Dollo Ado District/Woreda is located in the extreme south east of Ethiopia bordering Kenya and Somalia in the south. Dollo Ado has been hosting Somali refugees since 2009. UNHCR, ARRA and WFP in collaboration with humanitarian agencies provide essential life saving, protection and basic services including nutrition and health service provision in the five camps of in five camps of Bokolmanyo, Melkadida, Kobe, Hilaweyn and Buramino. The current population is 214,627 inidviduals as of September 2017 of which 12.2% are estimated to be under five years old children.
In the five camps, the prevalence of global acute malnutrition (GAM) as of March 2017 was above the UNHCR acceptale level (<10%) . In four camps (Bokolmanyo, Kobe, Hilaweyn and Buramino) the prevalence of GAM showed significant improvements since 2016 indicating improvements in the nutrition status of children under-five years of age. Anaemia prevalence among children 6-59 months ranges from 38.0% to 56.9% which is indicative of a critical public health situation.
The operation in Ethiopia in general is experiencing food ration cuts consequently <2100 Kcal of food is currently received by refugees.
The Assistant IYCF Officer (NOA) will work under the supervision of the Associate Nutrition and Food Security Officer NOB in Melkadida with Technical guidance from the Nutrition Officer in Addis Ababa.
