The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training. The employee will work within the TBGENAfrica research team at the Armauer Hansen Research Institute. This project is funded by the Wellcome Trust through the African Academy of Sciences and coordinates collaborative research on susceptibility to tuberculosis in three countries in North-Eastern Africa and Cameroun. The employee will participate in the establishment and strengthening of a regional Bioinformatics Research and Training Centre at AHRI that will build genomics capacity in all partner countries. Job description: Specimen collection/Management. · Collect biological specimen from study participants or patients. · ensure appropriate information is provided to study participants and data are collected accurately, · maintain specimen integrity for laboratory testing; log and pack specimens for delivery; expedite the preparation of priority specimens, · identify Special Service requests and prioritize accordingly; · distribute specimens to appropriate departments promptly Daily Maintenance. · Coordinate specimen collection, documentation, pending list analysis, coordination of specimen transport among study sites. · Facilitate relevant training to study sites for optimal specimen collection as per standard guideline Data Entry. Interpret patient requisitions, enter patient information into the Laboratory Information System; receive and track patient samples in the patient record forms |
Minimum Bsc Nursing /Health officer Excellent communication skills, including report writing Documentation, patient specimen collection sample and data entry skills A minimum of 2 years relevant working experience |
