The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training. The employee will work within the TBGENAfrica research team at the Armauer Hansen Research Institute. This project is funded by the Wellcome Trust through the African Academy of Sciences and coordinates collaborative research on susceptibility to tuberculosis in three countries in North-Eastern Africa and Cameroun. The employee will participate in the establishment and strengthening of a regional Bioinformatics Research and Training Centre at AHRI that will build genomics capacity in all partner countries. AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Data Manager.
Job Description
· Write procedures and software’s to extract and prepare data for analysis and produce routine summaries of data. · Train field teams on their use implement and monitor quality assurance protocols and routines, data flow and integrity, including remote back-up of databases. · Contribute to the overall data system needs for the assigned research project, this may include: database design for specific team members |
Msc/BSc degree in Information Systems, Database Management, Computer Science, statistics or related discipline. Experience working with relational databases for complex datasets and relational database servers e.g., MySQL, MS SQL Server or Oracle. At least 4 years of experience in database and/or software development. Experience of SQL language for data extraction and management of databases. Knowledge and experience of C++ is an added advantage. Knowledge and experience of Linux operative system is an advantage. Experience in simple data analysis and report writing preferred. Excellent knowledge of python and/or R with evidence of significant projects using these tools Experience of developing interactive, database-driven web tools Excellent interpersonal communication and good personal organization skills. Good communication ability Good judgment and willingness to take initiative when appropriate |
