In Ethiopia GIZ has been implementing development programmes on behalf of the German government for over 40 years jointly with our national partners. The focus of our work in the country is on vocational education, sustainable use of natural resources, land management and food security, biodiversity and forestry. Further programmes enhance the development of a sustainable textile sector and renewable energies.
At the GIZ Country Office in Addis Ababa the communications and events unit is responsible for the external and internal communications of GIZ on country level and reports to the GIZ country management. The unit manages the communications strategy for GIZ Ethiopia, national media relations of GIZ, conveying clear and consistent image of GIZ and ensuring that corporate communications standards are met. The unit is in charge of communicating results of our work through a broad range of internal and external channels including print, digital and face-to-face communication. It provides also advisory services to the programmes on communications concepts and measures, corporate design, press relations and events. The unit liaises closely with the corporate communications unit at GIZ Headquarters in Germany, with communication units of national or international GIZ partners, other German Development Cooperation stakeholders and different service provider.
For its Risk Management Office in Addis Ababa GIZ is looking for:
Position: Security Risk Management Operations Officer

Support general Security Risk Management (SRM) operations:
Dealing with safety and security incidents where GIZ staff members require assistance
Give security briefings to new staff
Advise staff and programmes and provide information on corporate minimum security standards, monitor compliance
Support programmes in mission planning in compliance with corporate SRM standards, give mission approval together with Risk Management Adviser (RMA)
Conduct office and residence inspections and prepare recommendations for safety and security improvements
Ensure all offices adhere to health and safety standards as require by GIZ Corporate Unit
Facilitate incident responses together with the Risk Management Adviser (RMA).
Organise trainings
Liaise with other organisations and institutions
Design incident database and maintain incident mapping
Supervise SRM operations in regional offices:
Conduct security risk assessments and prepare risk profiles and risk mitigation measures for regional offices
Support RMA in setting up Security Focal Point system in regional offices
Support training curriculum design for Security Focal Points, facilitate as trainer
Coordinate and give technical advice to Security Focal Points together with RMA
Help amend trainings to regional contexts, organise training.
Liaise with other organisations and local institutions, facilitate exchange network
Excellent English oral and writing skills.
Experience in report writing in English is essential.
Required Qualifications, Competences and Experience
College or University Degree in relevant field or security studied plus Strong skills in political analysis
Basic knowledge of Ethiopia law – traffic and criminal law especially.
Methodological competencies: GIS, strategic information gathering, security risk analysis
Driving license – experience in driving different types of vehicles
Background in organizational SRM, minimum of 5 years’ experience
Knowledge of Amharic, and English. German language skills would be desired but not essential.
