In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on the commission of the Ethiopian government and international donors. GIZ Ethiopia is looking to recruit a field officer for the coordination of activities on site for the implementation of a wild coffee project for the Biodiversity and Forest, as specified below.

A Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent of this post has the main responsibility for the:
· Coordination of the project activities in Kaffa, Sheka and Bench-Maji zones under the guidance of the project coordinator
· Communication with local stakeholders of the coffee sector on site (cooperatives, unions, local authorities)
· Delivery of basic training and follow-up of specific training to beneficiaries in particular farmers, coops, unions and local actors
· Monitoring and reporting on the overall project activities
B. The Tasks
Coordination of the project activities on site under the guidance of the team leader
· Keep local stakeholders informed about the project
· To gather and process all incoming information and share it with the interested stakeholders
· To keep contact with involved Unions, traders, cooperative, farmers and local officials/authorities involved in the coffee value chain
· To keep the contact with all projects working in the coffee sector at the local level
· To coordinate the implementation of project activities on site in Kaffa, Sheka and Bench-Maji zones
· To support project partners in specific activities in the implementation site according to the project operational plan
Communication with stakeholders of coffee sector at the field areas
· To be aware of what is being done locally and nationally in the coffee sector
· To create a network among actors at the field level in the coffee sector and to integrate the Tea and Coffee Authority at the local level
· To feed the national coffee forum and workshop at national level with accurate information from the site
Analysis of value chains (focus on coffee)
· To analyse the coffee value chain from the production to the client/end market
· To identify gaps and bottle necks in this value chain
· To address these gaps and try to sort them out to contribute to the “formalisation” of the value chain
Capacity building to the people along the value chain
· To assess needs for capacity building for the field level operation
· To implement basic training activities for the stakeholders according to the operational plan
· To coordinate the implementation of training events with specialized trainers
· To follow up training results
· To identify further training needs and include them in the project plan
Monitoring and reporting on the project’s activities in the site
· To carry out/be part of the field monitoring based on established monitoring system
· To undertake field level activities’ reporting based on the established reporting system
· To actively participate in a knowledge management culture with regards to local settings
C. Other responsibilities
· To support and manage the field level administration tasks of the project
· To ensure that the rules and regulations of GIZ are always respected
· To keep on regular contact with project office Addis for all sorts of information exchange.
Qualifications required
· Degree in Agriculture, agro-economics, Natural Resource Management, Plant Science with economic understanding, in relation to forest coffee
· Minimum of 5 years professional experience in the value chain development in the coffee sector
· Understanding of forest management, and forest landscape restoration with associated alternative income options
· Minimum 5 years professional experience in an international/local NGO or cooperation body or in higher education institutions
· Have proven communication skills and organized reporting as per the planned activities’ progresses;
· Good mastering of (spoken& written) the English and Amharic languages, Kaffinonoo is an asset
· Good understanding of the local settings–socio-cultural and coffee forest landscapes
