INTRODUCTION
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009. With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Senior Protection Officer will be responsible for managing a mobile protection team that will visit and support IDP sites in targeted woredas in Fafan zone of the Somali region. The Senior Protection Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of her or his team in identifying and addressing general protection, child protection and gender-related protection issues within priority IDP sites and host communities. The Senior Protection Officer will supervise two Protection Officers – one specialized in child protection, the other specialized in gender-related issues. The Senior Protection Officer will be managed by the Jijiga-based Protection Team Leader and will work closely with DRC’s Addis Ababa-based Protection Coordinator to ensure effective, relevant and holistic protection activities in line with protection standards and best practices. Furthermore, the Senior Protection Officer is expected to lead regular reporting and management and monitoring of assigned activities.

REQUIRED
Education:
University degree in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
Languages:
Excellent skills in speaking, reading and writing English.
Somali (overall fluency required)
