The Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) is a legally registered, autonomous, and not-for-profit professional association established in 1992 and re-registered under the new civil society proclamation. Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) operates in all regions of Ethiopia by using and works for the quality of midwifery education and care. The primary goal of EMwA is to contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in Ethiopia, which are the SDGs global initiatives. The mission of the association is to promote and enhance the expansion, performance and status of the midwifery profession through adopting quality and evidence based practices; adhering to the code of ethics and empowering the professionals. To reach its mission, the Association has been implementing many programs and projects over the last decades in different parts of Ethiopia under its four strategic directions: Capacity Building, Advocacy & Representation, Partnership and Resource Mobilization and Research, Monitoring & Evaluation.
To achieve the desired results, Ethiopian Midwives Association would like to hire competent candidate for the following position.
Nature of the Work: The project officer will work 100% of his/her time for abandonment of FGM project and Works the hours necessary to meet the Position Description and working hours of EMwA.
Duration of employment: For one year with possibility of extension based on performance and availability of fund.
Position summary:
The Project Officer reports to the Project Coordinator and receives additional instructions from the Executive Director, is responsible for facilitating Project activities and closely work with program staff and partners. S/he assists in preparation of project implementation plans, budgets and carry out proper implementation of the project. The Project Officer handles all logistics and financial matters in related to trainings, workshops and other project activities.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in preparation of project implementation plans, budgets and carry out proper implementation of the project pertinent to the responsibility
Facilitate the Development of a tailored project training compendium for each change agent category (Health Extension Worker (HEW), TBA (Traditional Birth Attendant), CC (Community Conversation) facilitators) on Maternal & Neonatal Health (MNH), Family Planning (FP), FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) for Somali Context via consultant
Facilitate training of CC Facilitators at Kebele level on FGM
Organize road show and edutainment on FGM by mobilizing local youth clubs on FGM
Organize targeted gender sensitive events on FGM and maternal health issues among women to women and men to women/men in kebeles
Facilitate training of TBAs and HEWs on FGM and its complication
Organize FGM and RH education in primary and secondary school
Distribute anti-FGM IEC materials & BPCR cards for health facilities
Facilitate training of Skilled Birth Attendants (SBAs) on FGM birth management, De-infibulation, post-partum counselling and interpersonal communication skills
Conduct steering committee meeting every month at kebele and every quarter at district and follow the action points.
Organize woreda/zonal level FGM prevention & child right sensitization workshops every six months
Organize review meeting/experience sharing among the CC facilities and change agents from different kebeles (every six months)
Conduct biannual local project stakeholders meetings to brief and evaluate past 6 month and plan and coordinate next six month.
Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, Biannual and Annual report of the project
Strengthen and work in collaboration with the EMwA sub chapter office based in Gode
Perform any additional activity assigned by the main office and Immediate supervisor
Job Requirement
Education:
BSc/Diploma in Midwifery, Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, Sociology or other related fields
Experience:
3/5 years of relevant experience on similar /related position. Experience in I/NGO environment and/or working in donor-based projects and experience of working with the community as social worker /mobilizer are advantageous.
Additional Training:
Computer literate and able to manage basic knowledge and skills of computer
