Background
IPSS is an institute for peace and security studies in Africa. Its mission is to promote peace and security in Ethiopia and Africa at large through education, research and professional development. The Institute produces skilled professionals in conflict prevention, management and resolution as well as in peace building, and promotes the values of a democratic and peaceful society. The African Peace and Security Programme (APSP) is a joint collaboration between the IPSS and the African Union (AU).
Objective
The researcher will execute and support research activities in coordination with the research team of the Institute.
Tasks and Deliverables
· Provide overall support to the management and coordination of the research department;
· Provide input for the development of work plans, background papers, concept notes, reports and other materials;
· Contribute to the publication and dissemination of IPSS publications;
· Make arrangements for workshops, meetings, trainings;
· Provide assistance in data collection in Addis Ababa based institutions;
· Undertake research and write academic articles and policy papers.
Qualification and Experience
· MA in Peace and Security Studies, in social studies or related fields.
· Experience in conducting research on African peace and security issues.

· Ability to manage various priorities;
· Self-Initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision;
· Ability to work under pressure and stringent timelines;
· Fluent in English, both written and oral.
Duration
The duration of the engagement will be for a total of six months, with a possibility of extension based on funding and performance.
