PROJECT COORDINATOR-Inclusive Health Services
ECDD is a local civil society development organization that works with other organizations to promote and facilitate mainstream government and non-governmental health service delivery accessible to persons with disabilities. ECDD is currently implementing three projects promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, and plans to develop more projects focusing on the promotion of inclusive health services to persons with disabilities in Ethiopia.
Description of Tasks:
The ECDD Inclusive Health Services Project Coordinator reports to the ECDD Program Director, and is responsible for implementing and monitoring all project activities of the various ECDD Inclusive Health Services projects. Specifically, the Project Coordinator will:
1. Prepare a Plan for the implementation of the activities of the existing projects under the ECDD Inclusive Health Program, in consultation with the Program Director, the Project Officer and Project Facilitators
2. Closely work with the Ministry of Health, regional and town level health bureaus and oversee the disability mainstreaming efforts and progress of all projects
3. Establish /strengthen a strong network among ECDD and the key partners in the health sector including, but not limited to, concerned Government bureaus, organizations of persons with disabilities (DPOs), community-based rehabilitation (CBR) organizations, other CSOs and Consortia working in the health sector
4. Design and organize workshops and various capacity building trainings on disability inclusive health services and prepare training materials
5. Organize trainings and events including community conversations in collaboration with DPOs and service providers at the intervention areas, in order to increase the knowledge, attitude and practice of persons with disabilities towards the existing health service provisions
6. Support organizations and public, private, and CSO health service providers at intervention areas in their effort to mainstream disability into their services
7. Identify and promote innovative technologies accessible to persons with disabilities and ensure utilization among persons with disabilities.
8. Support the capacity building initiatives of DPOs and ensure their effective participation in the projects
9. Ensure the active participation of CBR workers in the identification of youth with disabilities and in the referral services to the HEW and to the health centers
10. Ensure proper team work among the Inclusive Health Program team members including ECDD regional program staff
11. Represent ECDD and the inclusive health services projects in different government and non-governmental platforms
12. Ensure the proper monitoring of the projects in line with project indicators and in consultation with ECDD M&E Officer
13. Ensure timely submissions of reports to ECDD, donors and to key government signatories, including but not limited to Bureaus of Labour and Social Affairs and Health Bureaus
14. Keep proper documentation of the project implementation and outcomes
15. Document case stories and good practices of the projects
16. Undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by the Program Director and the Executive Director
1. Education – Masters in Public Health or MA degree in another health related field
2. Professional experience – minimum 5 years of responsibility for the implementation of donor-funded project(s)
3. Previous professional experience on ‘Sexual and Reproductive Health/SRH/’ projects desirable
4. A good understanding of National health policies and strategies
5. Previous professional experience working with persons with disabilities desirable
6. Excellent interpersonal relationships and team work
7. Excellent communication skills
8. Able and willing to travel frequently to the target regions/cities
9. Competence in the use of computer applications
10. Fluency in English and Amharic or Ethiopian Sign Language, knowledge of other Ethiopian languages also desirable
