Communications and Public Relations Officer
The Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental development organization established in 2005 and registered by the Charities and Societies Agency as an Ethiopian Residents Charity. ECDD works collaboratively with other organizations to promote “disability inclusive development” – the inclusion of disability issues and persons with disabilities in mainstream government and non-governmental service delivery and development programs.
ECDD maintains a website and Facebook account, and undertakes various information activities via public media. A Communications and Public Relations Officer is required to manage ECDD public communications activities.
Description of Tasks
The ECDD Communications Officer reports to the ECDD Program Director and is responsible for initiating, organizing and managing all ECDD public information activities. Specifically, the Officer will:
1. Lead the development of a comprehensive communications strategy for ECDD as a priority assignment.
2. Manage the ECDD website, uploading content and advising on the re-development of the website design, insuring its accessibility.
3. Manage the ECDD facebook account, posting daily or at a minimum weekly content as provided by ECDD staff and other sources.
4. Create and manage an ECDD twitter account, posting regular daily/weekly “tweets”, as well as during participation in ECDD and other events.
5. Develop key promotional messages in consultation with ECDD staff for use in each social media, as appropriate.
6. Compile and archive photos, videos, fact sheets, training materials and other communication documents on the ECDD shared drive platform for easy access by Program team members in a timely manner.
7. Prepare various public media materials, including information brochures, and media releases for distribution to various print and radio media.
8. Ensure the dissemination of information and communication materials to relevant stakeholders and beneficiaries.
9. Arrange for media coverage of various ECDD events, and ECDD participation in various media events.
10. Work closely with ECDD Project staff to help identify project communication needs and how best to meet them, including through the use of regional radio.
11. Advise and assist project staff on the preparation of content for radio programs with media focal persons, and keep a record of all broadcasts.
12. Assist in the production of human interest stories, interviews, pictures, and videos of ECDD project activities, in collaboration with project focal persons and as requested by donors and partners.
13. Prepare at least two good short stories/success stories per year from each project, in collaboration with project staff, for distribution to donor partners and posting on social media.
14. Publicize and arrange for staff participation in various webinars and other online learning and training opportunities offered by ECDD partners and other organizations.
15. Suggest additional ways that ECDD can increase public awareness of its work and of disability inclusion in general.
16. Assist in maintaining and strengthening the ECDD network with other development NGOs, DPOs, government offices and partners.
17. Assist the Ethiopian Business and Disability Network (EBDN) to increase public awareness of EBDN, and publically promote the employment of workers with disabilities.
18. Support the organization of the annual EBDN inclusive Employer Awards Program, and ensure coverage of the event via print, radio and TV media.
19. Represent ECDD in national forums, platforms and meetings as requested.
20. Undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by the ECDD Program Director and/or the ECDD Executive Director.
