HelpAge International is responding to the protection needs of conflict and drought affected internally displaced persons (IDPs) in four Woredas of Oromia region through facilitating protection monitoring and capacity building support by mobile protection teams, establishing children and women spaces in IDP sites, and providing capacity building support on gender, age and disability mainstreaming for agencies granted under EHF scheme.
Summary of the Role:
The Child Protection Technical Expert form the mobile protection team which monitors activities to identify protection risks and the effectiveness of response in reducing risks. The following are the major responsibilities
gather protection related information in the targeted areas including using the findings of the DTM to make subsequent follow ups on protection concerns.
identify protection concerns that relate to the community as a whole such as services accessibility, risks of CP and GBV because limited access to facilities, etc.
identify individuals with serious protection issues such as cases of violence or abuse, cases of separated or unaccompanied children, cases of GBV, hazardous child labour, child marriage, elderly or handicapped persons without caregivers, etc and refer such cases to an appropriate service provider and/or the individual should be informed of appropriate available services if these exist.
provide direct capacity building support for agencies including sharing data and information concerning protection issues.
provide advices and technical support for different sectors on how to mainstream protection in their programmes and ways of working.
