Job Responsibilities and Tasks:
Strategy Development
· Lead, develop and implement a strategy for increasing resource mobilisation from WaterAid Ethiopia’s key donor and supplier markets.
· Support WAE’s SMT in managing the effective implementation of the Country Programmes (CPs) Funding Strategy
· Lead, motivate and support the program staff in programme fund drives to work effectively together
. Develop annual fundraising plan for input into the annual business plan and individual objectives.
Opportunity Generation
· Ensure WaterAid is well positioned within the donor and supplier markets as a ‘go to’ agency for long term WASH programming
· Build, maintain and track in-country relationships with and influence institutional donors within these markets (as well as cultivate and facilitate global donor HQ relationships when necessary)
· Grow a pipeline of funding opportunities for the country programme
· In collaboration with the SMT/CD, hold and manage key business development relationships with key corporate, INGO and research partners/competitors
· Provide country staff/programmes with up-to-date intelligence on prioritised donors, their key funding partners, funding opportunities and donor terms and conditions.
· Enable effective qualification of donor funding opportunities by WaterAid staff/programmes (e.g. Bid/No Bid process) to improve conversion/success rates
· Enable effective formation of strong consortium around specific funding opportunities prior to bid development
Bidding:
· Ensure effective coordination of proposal development and bid preparations, using staff and consultants as necessary to deliver bids
· Ensure effective contract negotiation for strategic, complex of high value opportunities as well as maintain standard negotiating positions for donor contract terms and conditions
Knowledge Management
· Support the program team in managing donor compliance and donor relationship management. The Business Development Manager will have no involvement in direct grant management, but will support SMT with quality assurance processes, tools and capacity building for specific donors
· Documentation of past, current and future fundraising efforts, challenges and opportunities for reference and use
· Writing reports and providing feedback to upper management about what is and is not working.
