Job Objective:
The Assistant officer role is to provide appropriate support to Education Project officer in selection of teachers for trainings, facilitating training programs for teachers and PTSAs, support and follow up on daily teaching-learning process on established temporary learning spaces, mobilization of community to send their children to schools, facilitate the distribution of school supplies …etc as per the requirement in the project. Key responsibilities include locating ways and linking members with the system of the Community, providing language and cultural translation services, and supporting staff in the coordination and management of activities.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Awareness: Familiarize him/her with IR missions, values, principles, and procedures and ensure that all project activities under his/her jurisdiction implemented in accordance with IR policies.
Planning: Assist the project officer in conducting need assessments on IDP school age children, the teachers’/facilitators’ training needs and school material requirement by collecting appropriate information. Assist and closely work with Project Officer on the status of project deliverables, collecting of required data in TLS and assist in the documentation of the results for further improvement.
Implementation: Assist and work closely with concerned officer on sensitization of value of education to the community and on endeavors to enhance quality basic education. Assist and work closely with concerned officer on strengthening the teaching-learning process on established Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS) in IDP sites and successfully implement the project deliverables. Assist and work closely with concerned officer on capacity building program for teachers/facilitators and on establishing and training of Parents Teachers Student Association (PTSAs) of schools. Support and follow the construction of Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS).
Monitoring and Follow-up: Identify and request appropriate materials for the education sector as per the project document, ensure smooth teaching-learning process in the camp and ensure Educational material distribution to schools and proper utilization of the materials.
Liaison: Promoting and scheduling appointments with community leaders, PTSAs and school principals while officer select trainees among the community members and schools for short and long term trainings.
Communication Facilitator: Assist in language and cultural translation to guests visiting the project. This may include activities such as:
a. Accompanying member during field visits to Kebeles.
b. Providing translation or support during visits, meetings, etc.
c. Serving as a resource to staff members.
Reporting: Assist the project officer in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, terminal report and financial reports of the Education in Emergencies project.
Team Work: Work closely in team with other project staff, officers and contribute to the maximum of his knowledge to the project team in his/her areas of profession as deemed necessary and Perform other functions as requested by the project Officer.
