Context and Scope of the Position
IOM Special Liaison Officer in Ethiopia has been undertaking various construction works in the country and wishes to recruit a local field engineer with adequate building and civil engineering qualifications to work under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of Resource Management Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the successful implementation and supervision of the various construction projects in Ethiopia.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Issue instructions to the contractor (s) and provide engineering supervision to the execution of works; Certify that the construction materials brought to site by the contractor(s) are in accordance with the specifications and are tested as per standard practices and submit report to supervisors and specific unit;
Ensure quality control through laboratory tests and other non-destructive tests at the expense of the contractor as may be required.
Prepare periodical progress reports whose nature and frequency depending on the magnitude of the project and reviewed for submission to management;
Maintain estimates and comparative statements of project costs and submit reports to management promptly;
The engineer shall be responsible for getting any defects identified during such an inspection rectified from the concerned contractor(s) and final payment of the contractor(s) recommended upon certification of the works.
Confer with management and field staff to discuss project specifications and procedures for implementation.
Educational Qualification:
Languages
Excellent writing and oral skills in English and Amharic is required and Working knowledge of other local languages has an advantage.
