Type of Appointment | Consultancy |
Estimated Start Date | As soon as possible |

Context and Scope of the Position
The ongoing crisis in Ethiopia’s Gedeo and West Guji Zones has led to nearly one million internally displaced persons (IDPs). IOM, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Korea (ROK), aims to contribute to the ongoing life-saving emergency response to displaced populations and host communities in Gedeo, West Guji and East/West Wollega Zones.
The majority of IDPs and host communities live in rural areas where there is difficulty in access to alternative energy sources. They are thus heavily dependent on wood as a primary fuel source for cooking. With the sudden influx of significant IDPs, wood has become increasingly scarce. IDPs and host communities rely on local forests to access firewood.
IOM aims to supply vulnerable households with fuel-saving stoves kits which will be accompanied by training of beneficiaries on how to use the improved cookstoves (ICSs).
Therefore, IOM is looking for trainers providing training for beneficiaries on how to use the improved cookstoves (ICSs). In this project, we use the term improved cookstoves (ICS) to mean those that demonstrate more efficient fuel use and more reductions in the emissions of carbon monoxide and particulate matter than traditional biomass stoves.
Training Objectives
Under the general supervision of the National Programme Officer and the direct supervision of the Transition and Recovery Programme Assistance the trainer will be responsible for the implementation of a series of training on improved cookstove utilization and sensitize on fuel efficient energy usage to the selected IDPs and host community in the target areas. Furthermore, the trainer will organize the training in a way that help increase adoption of improved cookstoves by the beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries need to know where to place and how to prepare food, use, extinguish, clean, maintain and store the stove. They also need to know how to identify malfunctions and what to do if a malfunction occurs.
The trainer should pay particular attention to revise sessions where necessary to make them most effective in a given setting. Session sequencing should be maintained to ensure that the introduction of theoretical information and demonstrations are logical and build the necessary learning foundation for a successful long-term retention of the apparatus.
