Purpose
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Under the supervision of the Head of Delegation, S/he is responsible for:
Providing advisory support to the Head and Deputy Head of Delegation on humanitarian diplomacy and policy.
Analyzing the general multilateral environment in Addis Ababa and maintaining a contextual and regional mapping of actors of influence in the multilateral field.
Developing and maintaining a network stakeholder mainly at the African Union Commission, International Organizations, NGOs and think tanks based in Addis Ababa with a view to analyze, strategize, represent, and influence the dynamics related to humanitarian affairs.
Identifying and establishing a structured dialogue with African NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
Promoting International Humanitarian Law and humanitarian thematic issues of concern with the African Union, Diplomatic community and International Organizations and NGOs based on Addis Ababa.
Conducting ad hoc research and analysis on humanitarian thematic issues of concern to the ICRC and AU
Facilitating regular exchange of information between the ICRC Delegation to the African Union and the network of delegations covering multilateral organizations in Africa.
Representing the ICRC at relevant meetings and public debates
Certifications / Education required
Master’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g. international relations, international law, political sciences).
Fluent command of written and spoken English and French; other language’s will be an asset
Computer proficiency
Professional Experience required
At least 8 years' experience in humanitarian action or political affairs.
Proven experience in cultivating networks and influencing others.
Solid understanding of national/regional relations and their interplay with humanitarian affairs.
Knowledge of multilateral organizations/fora/agencies and platforms.
Profile
Strongly motivated by humanitarian work, with capacity to engage, persuade and influence others
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create and maintain positive relations
Robust analytical and writing skills.
Robust organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities in an autonomous manner
Driver’s license an asset
