The Ethiopia Clean Cooking Alliance (ECCA) is a local NGO formed to support the development of clean cooking sector in Ethiopia. ECCA brings together major actors in the clean cooking sector including the private sector, government agencies, and non-government organizations. Its formation is in accordance with prevailing in country issues and global experiences.
Several actors along the supply chain influence clean cooking sector in Ethiopia including the private sectors, associations, NGOs and GOs. There is a need to bring these actors together to strengthen the sector and achieve targets set by various development programs. Global experience has shown that clean cooking alliances play significant role in developing the sector and creating efficient and effective mechanisms for the users in general. Multiple national programs and projects have justified the importance of the ECCA in creating efficient and effective clean cooking sector in Ethiopia. Government outlined ambitious roles in disseminated and using of clean cooking mechanisms.
ECCA is aimed at enhancing clean cooking through market mechanisms with the following specific targets:
·Awareness creation and sensitization through effective communication using multimedia fora;
·Advocates for standardized clean cooking products and capacitate testing facilities;
·Insure institutional memory through enhancing knowledge management system;
·Advocate for efficient and effective institutional setup that can promote clean cooking ;
·Stand for fair representation of members and democratic election of the leaders at federal and regional levels
ECCA’s vision is to ensure an effective and efficient clean cooking sector, where the ECCA contribute to influence related government policies and strategies to promote the clean cooking sector, influence markets, distribution and access to clean cooking technologies for improved health, environment protection and poverty reduction.
Ethiopia Clean Cooking Alliance (ECCA) requires a dynamic individual who have the knowledge, skill and experience to lead and manage ECCA to achieve its vision.
Overview
The director is a leader who represent the ECCA, execute any functions related to the ECCA, delegate others, correspond in the name of the ECCA and conclude contracts.
Accountable
The director of ECCA is accountable and report to the board of ECCA. Implement decision made by the general assembly and the board.
Administrative role
·Leads the daily operation of the ECCA by mobilizing, supervising and controlling the staff
· Studies and present to the Board policies and programs that are essential for the achievement of the objective of the ECCA
· Based on the human resource manual of the ECCA adopted by the Board, she/he may hire, supervise and fire employees and determine their salaries and allowances
· Leads the ECCA team– shares the vision of ECCA, coordinate, manage resources, and oversight the technical and administrative staff - to accomplish work plan activities and meet objectives of the ECCA.
· In line with the Article of association and decision of the General Assembly, carryout other tasks entrusted to her/him by the Board
Financial management
· In accordance with the Articles of Association designs systems to generate income, and prepares and implements strategies essential to achieve the objectives of the ECCA
· Prepares proposals to seek funding and support by responding to local and international calls and from potential organizations which could support the objective of the ECCA
· Ensures ECCA’s financial and technical reporting requirements are met.
· Regularly present the quarterly and annual financial and activity reports of the ECCA to the Board
· Based on the financial management manual of the ECCA, runs the bank account and promissory notes of the ECCA in conjunction with the accountant or the chairperson of the Board
Networking role
· Mobilizes the ECCA members to actively engage for the success of the ECCA
· Works closely with private sector, government agencies and non-government organizations
· Works collaboratively and coordinate with regional and/or other country Technical Leads as well as team partners on the implementation of activities.
· Engages in creation of networks between ECCA and international/regional clean cooking alliances for collaborative partnership, resources mobilization, experience sharing, etc..
Qualifications and Experience
· Master’s degree in relevant discipline with 3 years professional experience or Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline with 5 years professional experience in at least one of the following sectors (clean cooking sector/improved cook-stoves/household energy/resource mobilization/social marketing)
· Demonstrable team leadership experience in project management,
· Experience leading projects, managing and owning responsibility for all aspects, from conception to execution
· Experience engaging with professional individuals across levels, from junior team members to senior executives
· Familiarity with Global Clean Cooking in general and Ethiopian Clean cooking initiatives in particular
· Demonstrated knowledge of and implementation experience with clean cooking sector in Ethiopia
· Fluency in written and spoken English.
· Strong oral, and presentation skills
· Demonstrated interpersonal skills in facilitation and stakeholder engagement/coordination
