The Last Ten Kilometers 2020 (L10K 2020) is a JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and UNICEF. In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health of the Government of Ethiopia (FMOH), Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs), national and regional institutes, and other implementing partner organizations, L10K 2020 strengthens the capacity of regional and zonal health systems to implement the transformation agendas of Ethiopia’s Health Sector Transformation Plan (HSTP) 2015 – 2020 — i.e., woreda transformation, quality and equity of health services, compassionate and respectful care, and the information revolution. The goal of L10K 2020 Project is to ensure optimum coverage of high impact reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) interventions and contribute towards reaching Ethiopia’s post-Millennium Development Goal (MDG) targets for reducing maternal, newborn and child mortalities.
As part of the support on the information revolution agendas, JSI /L10K project has been supporting the regional health research institutes in building the capacity of its staff to generate quality evidences which could be utilized by the region in addressing public health issues. This training is also intended to build the capacity of the Tigray Health Research Institute on policy brief development.
Objective of the training
The training is expected to enable participants to:
· Understand the basic elements of policy briefs;
· Identify the information needs of different audiences;
· Synthesize data to convey policy implications;
· Organize information effectively and
· Transform researches into policy briefs.
Key Deliverables
The consultant will work in close collaboration with THRI and L10K staff to accomplish the following functions;
· Develop training schedule and submit for approval
· Conduct three days training
· Pre and post training assessment and daily training evaluation
· Training materials including guidelines or checklist to writing a synthesis and policy briefs
· Prepare final training report
Required Number : Two
· An advanced University degree (Master’s degree or PhD preferred) in research, public health, medicine, statistics, or social science field
· Experience in providing training on policy brief development.
· Proven experience and expertise in applying tools to create policy brief and synthesis writing;
· Demonstrated experience in research and analysis;
· Good interpersonal communication skills
· Excellent writing skills
· A clear understanding of the Ethiopian health systems
