BACKGROUND
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with governments, businesses and civil society, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious foods for all people, especially the most vulnerable. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, GAIN has offices in countries with high levels of malnutrition: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Tanzania. To support work in those countries, we have representative offices in Denmark, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
DESCRIPTION
Overall Purpose:
Support with data collection, logistics and stakeholder engagement in startup of phase of the project “Promoting Economic Growth and Nutrition through Fruit Processing in Ethiopia”.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Support with logistics around visit of Danish partners to Ethiopia end January/February, and mid-March: scheduling of meetings, travel etc.
Stakeholder mapping; public, private, research, civil society which can impact the project
Interviews with potential partners and documentation; farmer organizations (Cascape project), processors – input for due diligence
Mapping of solar drier technologies and data collection
Collection of data for input for business cases and also for risk assessment/human rights assessment related to impact of project, incl opportunities to scale
Market and consumer study, mainly collection of secondary data, but can potentially be some primary data collection
Competences (Skills and Attributes):
Excellent writing skills in English
Good PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel skills
Self-starter and good team player
Ability to work with people from various sectors; private, public, civil society, and research.
Highly motivated and capable of delivering quality work under tight timelines
Drive, rigor, lateral thinking and problem solution oriented
Ability to adapt and work within a multicultural, multilingual and multidisciplinary environment
Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
Experience:
Understanding and experience with international development, particularly food systems, agriculture, nutrition and other similar topics.
Understanding of the role of business in contributing to Sustainable Development Goals
Experience in business management, process management, organizational development, quality management is an advantage
Experience writing or editing with ability to make understandable process instructions/tools for a variety of print and online media
Experience in project management and demonstrated success in working with various partners and service providers in time-bound projects
Understanding of with business strategy, business processes, business development, communications, marketing and / or management in particular
