Project Description
Founded in 1980, Inter Aide is a French non-governmental organization specialized in the implementation of concrete development programs, in response to the needs expressed by the most deprived populations. Inter Aide has been intervening in SNNP region in Ethiopia for almost 30 years with Agriculture, Water Supply and Health programs.
The objectives of Inter Aide project “developing and protecting mountainous watersheds to improve the resilience of farming families” are to improve the resilience of rural farming families and to preserve the natural resources of mountainous territories of Southern Ethiopia. Implemented between 2020 and 2024 in about 20 woredas, it mainly focuses on the dissemination of proven practices on soil & water conservation, fodder production, fertility management and agroforestry solutions. They are implemented in a consistent way to enable a global effect on integrated watershed management efforts with the involvement of all relevant community based and institutional actors.
Inter Aide France Agriculture Program is looking for a Research Manager for its project in SNNPR (Kembata-Tembaro, Hadiya and Wolayta zones). He/She will be based in Shinshicho (Kembata-Tembaro) with frequent travels on the field in Hadiya, Kembata-Tembaro & Wolayta.
Type of employment: full-time position on contract base (one year with possible extension)
General Objectives:
The Action Research department objectives are:
Those objectives will be reached through internal action research and capacity building activities as well as thanks to the liaison with external Research Centers and institutions.
With those objectives in mind, the Action Research Manager will be responsible for the design, supervision/coordination and implementation of the agronomic & environmental research and capacity building activities of the project.
Position
The Action Research Manager will work under the direct supervision of the Monitoring, Evaluation Research and Gender Coordinator. He/ She will directly supervise one agronomist. He/ She will have frequent and strong interactions with the coordination and the Monitoring & Evaluation team and the dedicated livestock unit.
He/ She will be based in the project coordination and Research office in Shinshicho in Kembata-Tembaro zone (SNNPR), with frequent travels on the field and to the coordination offices in Kembata-Tembaro, Hadiya and Wolayta.
Detailed Responsibilities:
The R&A manager responsibilities will be to:
Design, supervise and conduct technical & environmental action research activities
NB: the research conducted by the R&A unit will not only measure the potential and theoretical benefits of technologies promoted and disseminated by the project, but also empirically assess the level, criteria and constraints of sustainable adoption of those technologies by the beneficiaries and stakeholders.
Provide technical support and capacity building to the implementing team
Manage the compilation and presentation of research findings, support the Capitalization of innovative agro-ecological practices and dissemination of acquired knowledge
Manage directly an agronomist
