Context of the mission
MEDECINS DU MONDE (MDM) is an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) involved in humanitarian interventions and has been operating in Ethiopia since 1986 in different types of health projects from long-term interventions to emergency response.
In June 2017, MdM conducted an exploratory mission in the corridor Addis Abeba (AA) - Djibouti, which focused on the Afar part (zone 1) on Sex Work/GBV/SGBV for a 3year project under the title: "Reducing SGBV against Sex Workers on AA to Djibouti Corridor focused in Afar region Zone 1. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the regional authorities and our local partner Nikat association.
Since June 2021, Community-based implementation of Psychosocial, legal and outreach activities started in the project activities in close collaboration with the Nikat's association, with the aim of empowering the FSWs and creating an enabling environment for the FSWs to ensure their basic need and rights are respected. The PSS officer will play a vital role in the implementation of community led services through strengthening individual and group counselling activities, coaching of peer educators on lay counselling and capacitating Pes to identify needs among their community and learn how to deal with and manage problems and challenges at a community level.
Hierarchical & Functional links
The MHPSS officer will be based at the Semera field office with frequent travel to the project sites (Asayita, Dubti, Logia, Duchoto and Mille).
The mental health psychosocial officer will work under the direct supervision, the responsibility, and the authority of the field coordinator.
Essential Duties and responsibilities
Basic Salary : basic salary 21,060 ETB plus 30% hardship allowance
Contract duration : 2 months with possibility of extension
Duty station : Semera with frequent field trip to the project area
