CLM – Climate Sensitivity Innovation for Land Management
Since 2008, the Ethiopian government, namely the Ministry of Agriculture, operates the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) program to reverse land degradation and increase agricultural productivity in the highlands. The SLMP aims at reaching two million households in more than 7,000 micro-watersheds in Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, Oromia, SNNP and Tigray.
GIZ has been providing technical support to the MoA’s flagship program Sustainable Land Management since its inception, at national, regional and local levels. The new program module “Climate-Sensitive Innovations in Land Management” (CLM) which runs from July 2021 to June 2024 focuses on the capacity development of SLM implementors through policy and institutional development advisory, technical and managerial support, field-level coaching, training, networking, piloting field activities as well as research and communications.
Developing a scalable model for the protection of the Lake ecosystem is one of the outputs expected from the project. Accordingly, Lake Chamo is selected to pilot innovative approaches and practices through technical cooperation with key implementing partner MoA. Thematic advisors are deployed by the CLM project to steer and advise efforts in the areas of value chain development, institutional development, natural resource management and participatory land-use plan in the Lake Chamo ecosystem. The project has deployed consulting firm with its additional staff on those thematic areas of support. GIZ CLM is looking for an intern to support program advisory activities which include but are not limited to communication, documentation, facilitating procurement and contracts, following up deliverables, facilitating & scheduling coordination meetings, and CLM projects.
