The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of
the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health
of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer
Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical,
Clinical trial, Vaccine and Traditional Medicine research institute that works in developing tools
for clinical trial, Vaccine, prevention, control and treatment of neglected tropical disease (NTD)
and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied, basic biomedical research,
clinical trial and training.
Requirements and Skills
· Experience in conduction of cohort studies and experimental research design
· Basic knowledge and practical skills on microbiological and immunological methods, including flow cytometric instrumentation, Luminex, RNA extraction, and RT-PCR
· Basic bioinformatic knowledge

Duties
· Lead TB in pregnancy extension cohort in Adama
· Lead research project on TB transmission in individual (mothers and children), household and community level
· Conduct research on the mechanisms underlying the interaction between TB infection and pregnancy-associated immune changes
· Perform PBMC isolation, T cell characterization, TB infection-induced cytokines analysis and cellular gene expression using advanced immunological and molecular methods
· Conduct research on the TB biomarkers arm of THESA project in Adama
· Monitor and supervise all over field research procedures including data collection, specimen collection & transportation, and laboratory activities and providing advice to the laboratory technologists concerning the project protocols
· Estimate and order laboratory consumables and kits for the specific research activity
· Responsible for scientific report writing, manuscript development and produce publications
· Take responsibility to supervise master students and assist PhD students
· PhD degree obtained in the last 2 years in medical science, clinical infectious disease. Applicant should have a background knowledge in TB immunology and demonstrate a promising publication record with at least one first author in peer-reviewed journal.
