Armauer Hansen Research Institute in collaboration with APOPO, a Belgian NGO that trains rats to detect landmines, tuberculosis and much more has a project that aims to enhance tuberculosis case detection among health facilities across Addis Ababa City Administration using trained rats. The objective of the project is to find smear positive tuberculosis patients that are missed by the conventional method (microscopy) and bring them to treatment so as to contain the spread of the disease to the community. It will soon start TB screening among the urban poor population of Addis Ababa. Further information can be obtained from www.apopo.org
The AHRI-APOPO project therefore would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Project coordinator who reports to the project manager, PI
Key Duties and responsibilities
- Lead and supervise execution of the project activities as per the project protocol and milestones
- Oversee project activities conducted by different teams such as sample collectors, rat handlers, lab team, and partners
- Liaise with partners and their staff for a smooth collaboration by organizing regular meetings
- Regularly monitor patient recruitment, sample collection, data collection and management, rat evaluation sessions, laboratory confirmation, additional case reporting and treatment initiation activities
- Actively participate in the short and long-term project plan, in the resource planning and implementation, in the assessment of the utilization of the project budget and timely supplies of material needs
- Handle any other duty given by the program manager
BSc in Public Health or Nursing from an accredited institution with an excellent English proficiency
Experience
- At least ten years’ experience in project coordination/implementation of which 4 years should be in research environment.
- Knowledge of rat-based TB detection method
- Experience working with donors, local and international partners, and stakeholders
- Proven experience in managing staff of diverse educational level and background
