Summary
The Psychotherapist/Trainer will build the capacity of national staff counselors and local refugee psychosocial counselors (PSCs) to provide mental health services to torture and conflict trauma survivors; oversee and coordinate delivery of mental health interventions for adult and children survivors in refugee camps, in the form of individual and group therapy; and liaise with other NGOs and local organizations.
Job Responsibilities
10% Staff Management: Build and maintain a strong and cohesive clinical team. Coordinate workflow, resources and priorities; and facilitate communication across the team. Hire, coach, mentor and develop staff members through ongoing feedback as well as formal performance management systems. Coordinate and facilitate clinical team meetings.
Work Environment: In Gambella, CVT currently operates in Nguenyyiel Camp. Gambella town is the capital of Gambella Region with five main ethnic groups living in the region, but with long standing tension and conflict between the two largest ones—Nuer and Anyuak. “Highlanders”—the Ethiopians coming from the other regions to do business and work with humanitarian organizations are also a big population in Gambella town. Nguenyyiel camp is the largest of the camps in Gambella region. CVT maintains two Healing Centers in the Nguienyyiel refugee camp, one in Zone A and the other in Zone D. It takes about one hour to drive from Gambella town, where we have the office and staff compound, to reach this part of the camp, including about 35 minutes on paved road and 25 minutes on an unpaved road leading to and inside the camp. The office compound serves as guesthouse where expatriate staff are housed, whereas Ethiopian staff live in their own accommodation outside of the compound. a portion of this compound is the office, the other portion is dedicated to living space for expatriate staff. The compound has running water, electricity and internet services, although intermittent at times due to common power outages. The compound is located on the Southern side of the Baro River, on the same side as the airport and Addis Ababa road, so that one is not stranded at the bridge in case of emergency.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; climb stairs; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift supplies of up to 15 pounds. Ability to travel by car for up to 2 hours per day on rough roads.
