Background
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office and under direct supervision of the Peace Building National Officer, the incumbent shall be responsible to carry out general duties related to IOM’s construction works for transition and recovery work.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team in an ever changing and diverse environment. S/he needs to be solution orientated, hands-on and a good motivator and communicator with people.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. Participate in preparing BoQs’ and developing standard forms for regular monitoring reports including progress of work, adequacy of materials, and details of work done.
2. Monitor construction work to verify standards and quality are adhered to.
3. Support the supervisor with the following functions:
4. Assist in coordination and monitoring of projects.
5. Consult with relevant bodies inside and outside IOM to prepare project scope and specifications.
6. Provide support to Project Management, Site Management, Project Control Management, Procurement, Construction Management, as required.
7. Comply with UNDSS security protocol and internal IOM procedures.
8. Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors
Educational Qualification
· University degree in Civil/structural Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, or related field of study or a combination of training and relevant working experience
Experience
· Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in Civil and structural Engineering projects;
· Demonstrated capacity and experience in the use of AutoCAD, ProgeCAD, ArcGIS, and RCD 2000.
· Previous work experience in the engineering field especially in UN Agencies is an advantage;
· Excellent experience in supervision of construction works with a track record of having undertaken construction or renovation of similar funding scale;
· Experience and ability to produce and/or check the drawings including but not limited to site plans, architectural, structural and MEP drawings, cost estimation, BOQ and other layout plans which may be presented by prospective contractor(s);
· Experience in working with international organisations, governmental institutions, and/or aid organizations an asset;
· Ability to work independently, under pressure, able to maintain accuracy, paying attention to details, meeting deadlines and working with minimal supervision.
· Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills with proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with a team of colleagues;
· Effectively applies knowledge of Civil and structural Engineering of relevant theories and practices, and recognizes their application within existing IOM processes;
· Anticipates and understands internal and external issues and opportunities that may impact the construction programme landscape of IOM;
· Understanding of Construction management framework approach is considered as an asset;
· Adapts best Civil and structural Engineering practices to the requirements of IOM to facilitate the achievement of strategic objectives;
· Demonstrated ability to maintain integrity in performing responsibilities assigned.
· Ability to work in a multicultural environment
Skills:
· Good computer knowledge in MS office packages.
· Demonstrated capacity and skills in the use of AutoCAD, ProgeCAD, ArcGIS, and RCD 2000.
· Ability to adapt technical knowledge and expertise to specific project or activities; ability to work with colleagues from different cultural and professional backgrounds; flexibility to perform and deliver in difficult and rapidly changing situations is essential.
· Ability to work quickly and accurately and pay attention to detail.
· Willingness to assist efficiently in a very busy project environment.
· Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
· Ability to present clear and concise information and good communication skills i.e., Strong writing and reporting skills,
· Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds
Languages
· Fluency in English and Amharic is required.
· Working knowledge Afan Oromo/Somali languages is an advantage.
