Inclusion Officer

Purpose

Under the Inclusive Political Parties Program funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), the Norwegian Christian Democratic Party (KrF) supports Ethiopian political parties in strengthening the inclusion of marginalized groups in political processes. To reach this goal, KrF seeks a consultant to develop and coordinate inclusion activities with Ethiopian Political Parties Joint Council (EPPJC) to ensure fair representation and inclusion of women, youth and persons with disabilities in political parties.

In close consultation with KrF staff and local implementing partners, the Inclusion Officer will:

• Support the EPPJC with knowledge, information and skills on best practices to strengthen the inclusion of underrepresented groups, particularly women, youth and persons with disabilities;
• Support political parties in implementing their strategic plans to include underrepresented groups;
• Coordinate and administrate program activities with political parties including planning and implementing training, gathering appropriate documentation, and financial administration;
• Conducting monitoring and evaluation activities like analyzing successes and failures, drafting activity reports and conducting appropriate follow-up measures with political parties;
• Collaborate and work together with international and local staff;
• Liaise with external partners and stakeholders supporting political parties in this line of work;
• Any other tasks related to strengthening the inclusion of underrepresented groups in political parties as advised by EPPJC

Required positions: One

Location: Offices centrally located near Bole Road, Addis Ababa

Terms of employment: April – December 2023, consultancy with the possibility of an extension 

Qualifications

Required:

• MA in social science (political science, sociology, social anthropology, psychology, development studies or other related fields)
• Senior level (5+ years experience)
• Knowledge of best practices and lessons learned in designing and implementing inclusive processes with political parties or organizations;
• Good writing and communication skills; the ability to write coherent and analytical reports;
• Ability to show initiative, good judgment, and resourcefulness;
• Ability to work under pressure and in a constantly evolving and challenging environment;
• The ability to remain highly organized while handling multiple tasks under a tight deadline;
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
• Full professional proficiency in both Amharic and English both written and oral

Desired:

• Experience working with political institutions (political parties, parliaments, or electoral management bodies)
• Knowledge on democracy and governance in Ethiopia
• Experience working in sensitive political environments
