Job Description
PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships, and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing health challenges.
Since 2007, PATH has been working to improve health systems and services to create healthier futures for Ethiopians. PATH in Ethiopia is currently implementing various high impact, evidence based, sustainable programs with the aim of saving and improving the lives of the most vulnerable and underserved women and children in the country in collaboration with Ethiopia’s Federal Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureau, community groups, and other partners.
About the post
The Ethiopia Ministry of Health (MoH), along with several other countries, are considering how to sustain the COVID-19 response efforts by integrating epidemic management systems into the general health system of the country. However, the risk of resurgence of new strains of the virus poses a major challenge, and adaptations to the general health system are also warranted to prevent or mitigate the impact of new risks. To that end, PATH with grant from USAID and in collaboration with MoH will conduct a National Assessment on COVID-19 response in Ethiopia. The aim is to document the experiences and lessons over the last three years, and to provide recommendations for future directions.
As part of the assessment, PATH Ethiopia seeks to recruit qualified and experienced qualitative data collectors. Data collection will be done through interviews with national and subnational key stakeholders. There are two study questionnaires: one for the quantitative (health facilities) and another for the qualitative. The qualitative data will be collected using Key Informant Interviews and Focus Group Discussions. Note taking and audio recording will be used to capture all information. The interviews will be conducted in local languages and the transcripts will be back translated to English. The data collectors will receive didactic and field-based training before conducting the data collection. After training is completed, the data collectors will be deployed for the data collection activities in one of the study regions: Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, Somali and Gambella. A vehicle will be provided to each team to facilitate travel between data.
collection sites. A deployment plan will be given to each team before leaving to conduct the interviews.
PATH will cover the costs during data collection days including the training days. Data collectors will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation during field data collection, using allowances that will be provided by PATH.
PATH will also ensure data collectors have technical support for the use and maintenance of the devices being used for data collection, including backup battery packs and IT support via mobile phone or in-person if practical. PATH will create a WhatsApp group to facilitate communication with the data collection team and the study supervisor and investigators.
