Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Sub-Office and the technical supervision of the Protection Officer; and in collaboration with the rest of the protection unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing quality case management services and safe referrals. He/she will ensure the response to Protection cases are in line with Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) guidelines on protection and GBV for IOM Ethiopia.
In particular, he/she will undertake the following responsibilities and accountabilities.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, specifically, provision of confidential and comprehensive case management services grounded in protection principles and a survivor-centred approach.
2. Provide emotional support and direct assistance to clients and ensure timely referrals and follow-up on individual cases, in line with the case plan. This can variously include, emergency material support, accompaniment, cash assistance and further referrals.
3. Through regular community presence, create and strengthen networks with community leaders, service providers, camp management, to support establishment of safe entry points, build trust with the community and ensure individuals at high-risk and those with protection needs receive compassionate and timely support.
4. job training on protection principles, GBV guiding principles and core concepts, effective communication, and active listening and PSEA.
5. Ensure client information is captured accurately and ethically, stored safely and confidentially, in internal databases.
6. Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific project topics.
7. Monitor budget; verify availability of funds; obtain necessary approval and update budget related information.
8. Support administrative coordination of project implementation, involving liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
9. Regularly coordinate with and participate in protection and GBV inter-agency structures; identify, report and update gaps in service provision and referral pathways in target areas.
10. Assist in protection mainstreaming and GBV risk mitigation interventions through regular engagement with IOM units on safety, dignity, accessibility, and privacy of their services.
11. Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery and bringing them to the attention of the supervisor.
12. Draft correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations and other forms of documentation.
13. Organize meetings, workshops and training sessions.
14. Respond to general information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
15. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
Experience
· Experience in Protection or GBV in emergency and post-crisis contexts.
· Demonstrated experience working in case management and with individuals with protection needs, GBV survivors and at-risk populations.
Languages
· Fluency in English (oral and written).
· Knowledge of Amharic and other local languages
Skills
· Knowledge and understanding of protection principles, survivor-centered approaches and their operationalization.
· In-depth and clear understanding of gender, power and issues surrounding gender-based violence.
· Knowledge of how to maintain confidentiality, provide emotional support and engage clients ethically.
. Ability to work in teams and ensure respect and accountability.
