Job Description

General Overview of Position:

The LionHeart is a collaborative group.  We join forces every day to develop engaging ways to help our students experience joy in discovering new things, find satisfaction in solving problems and relish reward from sharing their views with classmates.  Our curriculum, HighScope, is based in current research and best practices proven effective at making learning fun and inspiring.  LionHeart teachers lead as positive role models for the LionHeart community of students, colleagues, parents and staff.   Faculty members uphold the following duties, aptitudes and responsibilities:

A.  Specific Duties

• Teach classes as assigned by management as follows:

                 1. Become knowledgeable in HighScope Curriculum as a main Instructor of Preschool

                 2. Develop and teach French language to our Preschoolers

                 3. Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.

                 4. Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.

                 5. Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss them with supervisors, parents or guardians, and child development specialists.

• Provide direct instruction in a manner consistent with the LionHeart Philosophy of Education, Mission, Vision and Values.
• Model outstanding teaching and learning in your classroom and throughout the school.
• Contribute our culture, in which faculty members actively collaborate to develop and apply best practices that improve student outcomes throughout the LionHeart community.
• Participate and lead extra-curricular activities as assigned.

B.  Instructional Knowledge

• Understand and practice the LionHeart Mission, Values, Approaches and commitment to Diversity.
• Collaborate with the management to learn, understand and participate in the Learning instructional framework and evaluation.
• Learn, develop and demonstrate the Teaching Practices of Integration, Collaboration, Differentiation and Collegiality.

C.  Ongoing Curricular Contributions

• Contribute to ongoing curriculum development and documentation, keeping current with and, as appropriate, developing proficiency in applications.
• Develop instructional approaches and materials that support the most effective learning in clear alignment with organizational objectives, strategies and goals.
• Ensure that the LionHeart teaching practice includes stimulating learning materials that facilitate the following:

                 1. Maximize student engagement and enjoyment. 

                2. Provide a variety of discovery opportunities including the use of technology. 

                3. Enable students to develop learning and thinking skills with emphasis in literacy and numeracy.

• Maintain effective management of student behavior in and out of the classroom by using positive management practices.
• Implement strategies that ensure high standards of ethical behavior among students and colleagues.
• Work with students with Special Educational Needs 
• Be an energetic, patient, and inspiring educator.

II. Department of Learning & Development (DOLD)

A.    propel Student Achievement and Academic Standards

• Work with management and Leadership team to formalize the current system of Student Progress Evaluation, including but limited to the following elements:

                  1. Create academic calendar that aligns academic terms and entering anecdotes with issuance of three student progress reports and bi-annual family meetings.

• Plan and support communication to parents about the LHA curriculum, its goals, and student attainment. Ensure that LHA policies and procedures are regularly communicated to staff and students so that they are clear about their responsibilities.

B.  Supporting Professional Excellence

• Facilitate development and implementation of a new Faculty Orientation Program.
• Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop the Faculty Performance Evaluation system.  Ensure that teaching staff performance aligns with organizational goals.  Conduct regular staff performance reviews in a timely manner.

C.  Modeling the LionHeart Code of Conduct

• Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and positive, courteous relations with staff, students, families and visitors.
• Actively coach colleagues in practices that promote discovery, communication and collaboration to create a harmonious and effective working environment.
• Maintain absolute confidentiality of student records, internal staff issues and organizational information.  Conduct communication about students and families with the utmost respect and privacy.
• Adhere to LionHeart policies and procedures and ensure equal opportunities for all.
• Enthusiastically promote LionHeart organizational goals and priorities.
• From time to time, agree to work outside normal business hours and to work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.  Other duties may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

Reports to:  Department of Learning & Development (DOLD) 

Job Requirement

Skills:

1. Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines (i.e. lesson planning, curriculum management, student evaluation).
2. Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
3. Demonstrate functional competency with basic computer software (Word, Excel, Power Point) and web-based technologies such as electronic mail, file sharing, and Internet research.
