Background:
The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is non-partisan, non-governmental network organization established in 2003, and currently NEWA has 35-member local organizations and associations seeking to create a stronger advocacy voice for women’s advancement. NEWA has a twofold goal: synchronizing the individual activities of women’s associations into an integrated collective effort and synergy to realize their common aspirations for gender equality; and launching a vigorous public campaign of promotion, advocacy, and lobbying for women’s rights.
The mission of NEWA is guided by its Five Years Strategic Plan (2020-2024), and the promotions and the respect of young women and girls’ rights is one of its overarching strategic objectives enshrined in the plan. NEWA with financial support from Malala Fund is currently implementing a project focusing to contribute to girl’s access and participation in education, in conflict and post conflict situations. The problem of girl’s education has been highly compromised due to recent crisis in the country. The project assumes existing polices, strategies and guidelines can serve as framework to improve the situation. Thus, the project aims to improve the gender responsive the gender responsive implementation of these frameworks as well the newly building back plan of the government to ensure girls emerging needs and issues are well recognized and addressed. In relation to this, NEWA would like to hire a national consulting company to conduct an assessment on government budgeting for gender responsive implementation of building back plan for girl’s education to assist NEWA in its advocacy work toward influencing, policies, gender norms, and decision-makers for an implementation of a gender responsive building back plan ensuring girls’ safety and security.
