SECTION A: - BACKGROUND
Dereja, is a social enterprise unit of Infomind Solutions PLC. Dereja has been serving as a bridge by working with several universities in Ethiopia to capacitate graduating students on their employability skills, organizing several national and regional career fairs, and has been a pioneer in establishing career development centres across Ethiopian universities.
In the past five years, Dereja has been working in collaboration with the Ministry of Education; Ministry of Labor and Skills, Public and Private Universities; Employer Companies; and Donor agencies to tackle the critical youth unemployment issue in the country. Its theory of change is to create partnerships with universities and target students prior to their graduation with Dereja training programs and job fair clinics to build their employment and professional skills.
Since 2020, Dereja has been working in collaboration with different donors and implementing partners including Mastercard Foundation, AMREF Health Africa, and World Bank as well as different government institutions to address issues in relation with unemployment within the country. Through the partnership with Mastercard Foundation, Dereja works in empowering and preparing fresh graduates through different platforms and works to connect them to the labour market. Through the partnership with Amref health Africa, Dereja focuses on addressing the unemployment issues in relation with TVET graduates through Kefeta program. In collaboration with Ministry of labour and Skills and the World Bank, Dereja is addressing the challenges with regards to unemployment specifically for less educated urban youth groups through Bikat program.
To-date, Dereja has trained around 45,000 graduates on employability skills training with the established partnership of 18 public universities; reached 14,250 graduates through two virtual and eight regional job fairs and facilitated employment linkage opportunities for over 100,000 graduates out of these more than 70,000 of them have secured employment.
Over the years Dereja through its diverse soft skills, employability skills, and job readiness training, has attempted to bridge skill gaps of fresh graduates with the market demand. Most recently, the technical skills of fresh graduates are the latest gap identified by Dereja as a hindrance to their personal and professional development. It is evident that students upon graduation had much better theoretical knowledge than practical skills and are barely equipped with practical skills that will make them employable in the market. Therefore, it is critical and timely to engage in identifying the market need and provide a training package that will serve to bridge the ever-growing mismatch between the market demand and the technical skills of fresh graduates.
Dereja is therefore, seeking to acquire the services from experienced training providers in the thematic areas of marketing and sales, computer science and information technology, customer service, project management, human resource management, business development services, and, accounting and finance. The program aimed at equipping fresh graduates; with the essential technical Skills and Competencies required to work in diverse work environment.
