Purpose of the Job:
To ensure the sustanible and safe operation of Habesha Cement by developing and recommending measures for assuring personnel safety, and monitoring and/or anticipating hazardous and unsafe situations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· Identify and correct causes of occupational safety and health hazards.
· Carryout plant safety inspections in order to observe the physical conditions of work, work practices and procedures followed by the employees.
· Render advice on measures to be adopted for removing the unsafe physical conditions and preventing unsafe actions by employees.
· Monitor workers for exposure to safety or environment hazardous conditions.
· Alter, suspend, evacuate or terminate activities that may pose immanent safety or environment danger.
· Take appropriate action to mitigate or eliminate unsafe condition, operation, or hazard.
· Check and evaluate the effectiveness of action taken or proposed to prevent personal injuries.
· Provide training on safety and environment information.
· Perform assessment of engineering controls and PPE.
· Document both safe and unsafe acts, corrective actions taken on the scene, accidents or injuries, and ways to improve safety on future incidents.
· Identify hazardous situations associated with the incident.
· Review the Incident Action Plan (IAP) for safety implications.
· Exercise emergency authority to stop and prevent unsafe acts.
· Investigate accidents that have occurred within the incident area.
· Render advice on matters related to reporting and investigation of industrial accidents and diseases.
· Maintain such records as are necessary relating to accidents, fire incidents and occupational diseases.
· Ensure that all fire extinguishing equipment is tested periodically.
· Review all projects with regards to safety and fire protection.
· Develop emergency plan and conduct emergency drills.
· To establish and implement safety rules for contract workers.
Qualification and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related fields with three (3) years of demonstrated experience working as safety expert.
