Job Description

Friendship Support Association (FSA) is a local NGO working in Afar Regional State. The organization is seeking to recruit highly motivated and qualified candidate for CR WASH project vacant post.

JOB SUMMARY: 

The post holder will provide strategic guidance and leadership to the sanitation and hygiene intervention. S/he organize hygiene campaigns and oversee the door-to-door hygiene promotion. S/he takes the leadership in the development of written material and clear and adapted messages for the target community. S/he follows-up the supply chain for access to hygiene items and prepares hygiene promotion plans. S/he will lead the design, monitoring and learning of the CR WASH related sanitation and hygiene components.  S/he will provide technical support to the field teams and represent CR WASH hygiene and sanitation sector in different forums and clusters. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: 

• Serve as the main technical focal point in the implementation of hygiene, and sanitation promotion activities in a participatory manner and make optimal use of the existing local and culturally viable community structures for effective hygiene, and sanitation promotion activities.
• Organize survey to identify the determinant factors of hygiene behaviors and social norms, and use creative processes to develop context-relevant, attractive and engaging hygiene-promotion packages.
• Employ all the effort to influence local government offices, private sector, traditional leaders and other champions, to make sanitation and hygiene a priority matter in their respective woredas.
• Support governments and private sector stakeholders to develop community-based sanitation marketing structures and viable business models for sanitation and hygiene services and improve their participation in the delivery of sanitation services and products.
• Drive stakeholder engagement that considers sanitation service chain to unlock opportunities and catalyze growth in the hygiene and sanitation sector. 
• Actively participate and coordinate with the private, public, CSOs, FBOs and CBO, other local stakeholders and community structures for the smooth operation and to maintain durable solution of the hygiene and Sanitation activities.
• Participate in hygiene campaigns, doing demonstration activities and competitions in schools and at the community level, animate focus groups, giving clear messages on good hygiene practices. 
• Coordinate the hygiene and sanitation promotion activities in conducting assessments of barriers, enabling factors and development of effective communication methods to instigate changes in key behaviors and develop, design, modify, or adopt culturally appropriate media, messages, and IEC materials to promote health, sanitation, and hygiene behavior.
• Lead implementation of the project innovations and learning components like CLTS in identified and planned Kebeles and assist to document learning, and propose strategies with potential for scale-up.
• Create platforms of collaboration with the target Woreda Health Offices in building the capacity of Health Extension Workers and Hygiene promotion volunteers in participatory methodologies for the successful accomplishment of the CR WASH activities.
• Work closely with the target Woredas Education & Health offices in entrenching sanitation and hygiene in their extracurricular programs (in schools and health centers) so as to maximize the benefits of use of improved or existing sanitation facilities.
• Provide necessary support to community volunteers and development workers for the implementation of hygiene and sanitation related activities within their respective communities.
• Adhere to the organization's safeguarding policy and code of conduct to ensure that the target community is not harmed.

Job Requirement

JOB REQUIREMENT

• BSc/MSc degree in Public Health, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health science, Social and behavioral sciences, or other related field of studies. 
• For BSc degree minimum of 5 years and MSc 3 years of related experience in the implementation of Hygiene and Sanitation projects, preferably lowland WASH activities in Private, NGO or Government organizations.
• Proven knowledge and skill on hygiene and sanitation promotion, preparing/customizing training manuals.
• Strong understanding of the principles of WASH and national priorities and the ability to apply this knowledge to CR WASH activities, 
• Strong understanding of basic training in WASH Programming, participatory training methods, community mobilizations and networking, 
• Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of local language is required.
• Knowledge of the WASH sector policies, strategies and guidelines
• Ability to identify and plan work strategically and meeting deadlines
• Ability to train other and provide technical guidance to support field staff
• Good in oral and written communication skills 
• Proven experience of high-level report writing
• Previous relevant experience in the NGO sector is an asset
