Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Mechanical Manager, undertakes mechanical maintenance of plant machinery and equipment, carries out inspection of machinery and equipment; directs, supervises and other mechanics; submits reports on maintenance activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1. Operational

• Directs supervises, and coordinates, as necessary, maintenance tasks assigned to subordinate mechanics;
• Undertakes preventive and corrective maintenance activities as per repair /service manual;
• Interprets drawings and catalogues to carry out maintenances;
• Determines spare parts requirements and initiates store requisitions;
• Carries out inspection of machinery and equipment to determine maintenances required;
• Examines machinery and equipment to determine the nature and location of defects;
• Disassembles machinery and equipment to fix defects; assembles parts;
• Fills out work performed, time spent, and spars and materials used;
• Prepares the specifications for machinery and equipment to be purchased
• Prepares specifications for procurement of machinery and equipment; participates in the evaluation and selection process;
• Initiates and implements maintenance cost reduction schemes;
• Ensures that safe keeping of maintenance facilities and tools;
• Participates in worker’s skill upgrading programs;
• Prepares and submits periodic performance reports;
• Execute RCA for major machine breakdowns.
• Performs other related duties as required.

• Application of 5S (sorting, set in order, systematic cleaning, standardizing and sustaining).

• Ensure maintenance quality and machine
• Ensure the machines are working without loss.
• Ensure Machine availability

1.4 Cost Management

• Properly use and follow spare part consumption

1.5. Safety and Housekeeping

• Using PPE properly
• Follow Safe working procedures
• Maintain Safe, Healthy and Risk-Free Working Environment on Shift basis
• Follow and implement lock out tag out (LOTO) system and Permits

1.6. Manufacturing Excellence system implementation towards world class manufacturing.

• Follow Visual management board
• Participate in 5S team activities
• Team work

1.7. Food Safety Management System

• Aware of all Food safety Procedures and policy.
• Implement, document, maintain and continually improve the food safety  Management System (ISO 220001:2015)

1.8. Environmental Management System 

• Do maintenance activities ensuring the compliance with the relevant requirements of local, national and international laws related to environmental standards and end client’s environmental requirements.
• Recognize and aim for continuous improvement on protection and preservation of the environment with a focus on reducing resource consumption, recycling, and reducing green house gas emissions, no net deforestations)  as well as innovation to reduce environmental impact.
• Retain list of chemicals used and control them as per their material safety data sheet, legal and client requirements. Also properly handle and manage hazardous materials and wastes.
• Use R rules (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink, etc) to avoid or minimize discharges to water, emissions to air and disposal to land.
• Ensure sustainably use the natural resources such as water and energy. And also accurately measure and record consumptions.
• Record, document and maintain the records as per the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015) requirements.

1.9. OH and S Management system

• Maintaining a safe work environment in accordance with company Occupational Health
• and Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Maintain Safe, Healthy and Risk-Free Working Environment on shifts basis.
• Assisting in the on-going maintenance of a safe work place through involvement in the implementation of safe systems of work in accordance with company Occupational Health Safety Policies and Procedures
• Participating in mandatory Health and Safety training sessions
• Identifying and reporting hazards in the workplace
• Record, document and maintain the records as per the OH&S Management System (ISO 45001:2018) requirements.

Job Requirement

COMPETENCIES: -  

(i) Knowledge and Experience Required

• B.Sc /Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical engineering/ TVET Level III certificates or related fields
• At least 2/6 years of relevant work experience,
• Familiarity with maintenance systems
• Familiarity and Experience on TPM
