The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of Driver Light Vehicles based in Mekelle
Terms of Employment: Fixed term contract until 30th of September 2024.
GENERAL DUTIES
Respects and observes staff regulations of the ICRC in Ethiopia, drives different types of light ICRC vehicles by strictly following internal security and national traffic rules
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Responsibilities:
Driving
· Drives ICRC vehicles for city trips and field missions, according to car-pool instructions and planning
· Strictly and consistently observes ICRC driving rules & regulations
· Always drives calmly and carefully, respecting to all other users of the road and avoiding reckless or dangerous behavior
Vehicles
· Ensures efficient use of vehicles and fuel
· In consultation with the Car Dispatcher, organizes and monitors vehicle cleaning and refueling Closely monitors vehicle logbooks, inventory and technical condition (according to instructions from Fleet Management and Carpool)
· Reports discrepancies and maintenance/repair to carpool
Passenger
· Allows passengers that are eligible to board ICRC vehicles (as per ICRC rules & regulations)
· Drives in a way to minimize risks and maximize comfort
· Generally, follows instructions, unless they contradict car-pool instructions or ICRC rules and regulations
· Provides basic information about delegation, city and country
· Acts as an interpreter whenever necessary
· Assists with loading and offloading of personal effects
· Maintains good personal hygiene and neat dressing habits
Cargo
· Drives carefully to avoid damage or loss to cargo
· Handles shipping documents (Waybills, etc.) with utmost care and according to relevant procedures
· Handles all cargo with utmost care; the driver is fully responsible for any cargo from receipt (driver signs Waybill) until handover (receiver signs Waybill) Assists with loading and offloading
· Operates HF and VHF radio communication equipment according to ICRC rules and regulations
· Updates logbook before and after each trip (for long missions: before and after each trip segment)
· Immediately reports any incident, accident or mechanical failure
· Maintains constant awareness of surroundings; immediately reports any unusual situation or event that may affect the trip/mission itself or ICRC operations in general
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
· The employee may be asked to perform duties and tasks not covered in this job description as well as to provide to other departments when necessary
