Under the supervision of the Somali Region Field Coordinator, the communication’s officer is responsible for:
Leading and coordinating the communication activities of MDM-GE for increased MdM Germany’s visibility, and improved documentation and communication of programme results, experiences and success stories to different stakeholders (including donors). The communication activities are also to facilitate and support MdM Germany’s work on health projects from long-term interventions to emergency responses.
Tasks and responsibilities
Communication’s strategy and media monitoring
· Together with the MdM Germany team and with support from headquarters, you create a communication’s strategy for all projects and programmes in Ethiopia
· You monitor local media and flag significant articles and reports of importance for MdM
Content Production
· For different occasions, objectives, media and target groups, you create content (stories, short interviews, videos and photos) of our implementation
· You help producing international communication content by providing data, information, interviews, photos or videos
· You travel to remote locations in and outside of Somali region
· You support all activities related to advocacy e.g., by facilitating interviews or data collection
Internal communication and reporting
· You will support in promoting MdM external communications principles towards the national staff (what and how does MdM communicate) incl. sensitising staff of potential external communications risks through briefings or trainings
· You will support in different reporting formats with creating meaningful stories
· In emergencies and crisis situations, you will advise on public positioning and might take over the role of a spokesperson
· Minimum of a first degree in Communication Studies, Public Relations, Resource Mobilisation, Development Studies or related fields
· Relevant professional education and professional experience in public relations as well as online communication
· Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position and experience with INGOs
· Strong organisational skills, also in emergency situations and autonomous in daily operations
· Fully confident with the MS Office package and well-experienced using social media platforms for social purposes
· Sound knowledge of selecting, creating, and editing photo and video material; proficient user of multimedia editing software – preferably Adobe Creative Suite
· Excellent verbal and writing skills in English and Amharic Languages. Knowledge of local languages will be advantageous.
· Team player and capable to work with different teams and target groups simultaneously
· Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations and outside of Somali region
